Description: The OFSA received information that led them to discover new members of Kappa Sigma fraternity, located at 600 University Ave., being hazed. The new member class was living in the basement, deprived of adequate sleep, and subject to compulsory calisthenics.

Outcome:

• The chapter will be place on Probationary Recognition immediately, to conclude 12/31/07.
• The chapter must revamp their new member education process, and have it approved by the OFSA and the Kappa Sigma National Headquarters staff by 2/16/07.
• Kappa Sigma must pay a $300 fine as penalty for exceeding the pledging deadline. That is payable to the Cornell Greek Community and must be delivered to the OFSA by 2/16/07.
• This incident will be posted to the Cornell Hazing web page hazing blotter and in accordance to policy, it will remain there for two years.

Description: The OFSA received a complaint on March 9, 2007 from the hazing website involving sisters of Alpha Epsilon Phi Sorority and a few brothers of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity conducting hazing activities with the new members of Alpha Epsilon Phi sorority at an off-campus apartment located in the College Town neighborhood, where brothers of Pi Kappa Alpha were living. The new members were blindfolded at times, forced to consume alcohol, with several becoming intoxicated. They were verbally harassed and asked to simulate oral sex acts with bananas.

Outcome: 

• The chapter will conduct a retreat, to be facilitated by someone with experience, which will include discussions on the following topics: positive sisterhood, appropriate and positive new member education, and what it means to be a contributing member of Alpha Epsilon Phi Sorority. The retreat should include all members and be designed to welcome the newest members in a positive atmosphere. This retreat must be approved by the National Executive Director and the OFSA prior to the date which it occurs. Must be completed by August 31, 2007.

• The chapter must revise its new member education plan, making use of the Alpha Epsilon Phi National models available. The revisions must be approved by the National Executive Director and OFSA. To be completed by May 31, 2007.

• The chapter will sponsor, or co-sponsor an anti –hazing/pro-sisterhood workshop for the community. To be completed by October, 31, 2007.

• If new members are to be initiated before the end of the Spring 2007 semester, it must first be approved by the Associate Dean for OFSA and the Executive Director of Alpha Epsilon Phi, or her designee, must supervise the initiation ceremony. This must occur prior to May 4, 2007.

• The chapter will participate in the University compliance program as a result of hazing activity. To be completed no later than October 31, 2007.

• The chapter is to be placed on Disciplinary Probation, effective immediately and to conclude May 31, 2010.

Description: The OFSA received a complaint on Feb. 26, 2007 that one of the Lambda Theta Phi new members, filed a report on Saturday AM February 24th with CUPD and Ithaca Police indicating that on the night of Friday, February 23rd he had been hazed at an off-campus apartment, occupied by a former Cornell student and alumni member of Lambda Theta Phi fraternity. New member education activities were being conducted when a member of Lambda Theta Phi from another college slammed the new member into a wall and slapped him. 

Outcome: 

• The chapter must revise the new member education process, ensuring it is hazing free, and that it addresses the participation of brothers from other chapters, as their actions in this process are the responsibility of the Cornell chapter. The revised process must be completed and approved by the National Staff and the OFSA by May 31, 2007.

• The chapter must create and present an anti-hazing program to the MGLC, which is approved by the OFSA, by September 31, 2007.
• The chapter must follow through with all Lambda Theta Phi, NY Sector requirements, as detailed on the letter submitted during the Review, including participating in the Hazing Education Week.
• The chapter will participate in the University compliance program as a result of hazing activity. To be completed no later than October 31, 2007.
• The chapter will not be allowed to recruit nor initiate new members until after May 31, 2008.
• The chapter is immediately placed on Disciplinary Probation, to conclude May 31, 2009.

• In an effort to support the chapter’s work to better the fraternity, the chapter will work with their National Staff to restructure their recruitment and new member education process to maximize success and create the best Pi Kappa Alpha members possible. The plans must be approved by the National Headquarters Staff, the Chapter Advisor or an Alumni representative, and the OFSA by September 31, 2007.
• The chapter will sponsor, or co-sponsor, an anti-hazing/pro-brotherhood workshop for the community. To be completed by October, 31, 2007.
• The chapter will participate in the University compliance program as a result of hazing activity. To be completed no later than October 31, 2007.

The chapter is to be placed on Disciplinary Probation, effective immediately, and to conclude May 31, 2009.
